Mighty Optical Illusions – thats what this site is all about. During lunch time, take time off work and marvel at the various types of illusions presented – a treat for your eyes and ears and some exotic stimulation for your brain.


The site carries various types of illusions both in terms of pictures and videos. 3D – drawings that jump off the page, arty animations and even interesting Video illusions. One interesting illusion is about the McGurk Effect which is a perceptual phenomenon which demonstrates an interaction between hearing and vision in speech perception – how the brain reacts to visuals when combined with audio. Be sure to go through the Tests section too, to sharpen your perception and to find out how much you can be challenged by your own senses.


They have some gadgets which you could download onto your desktop, a Google Chrome extension and iPhone / iPad apps too !


Great for getting a smile on your face in between those heavy tasks and rushed appointments.

When you visit a website and it insists that you enter your email address first, before proceeding, what is your reaction ?  For a large amount of people there is a feeling of unease and distrust, and you may just move away. Email, a very effective way of communication, is today plagued by spams and unwanted mails which waste a lot of your time. Hence, we are scared to give it to an unknown site freely.


At such times, just head to maildrop.cc  It helps you with a free, disposable email address. There are no sign-ins, no passwords to remember, no security and no privacy. It just gives you a valid email address which you can enter without fear of spam. Use that address on any site and visit maildrop.cc to receive replies. If you get too much spam there, create another maildrop address and move on !


The next time a web form or app asks you to “please enter your e-mail address” you’ll be ready. “No problem, it’s whatever@maildrop.cc.” When that site sells your e-mail address, you can shrug, move onto another disposable MailDrop address, and your real e-mail won’t get filled with junk mail. Just try it !

This week we look at a website which is, in a word, “awesome”  This site captures live air traffic from around the world. It shows in great detail, the actual position of each flight which is in the air at any point of time, visually.


Flightradar24 combines data from several data sources and aggregates it together with schedule and flight status data from airlines and airports to create a unique flight tracking experience.


When you visit the website, you will be presented with a map, on which you will see an array of aircraft with their current, live positions. If you click on any aircraft, on the left panel, you will be presented with the Flight No., Source and Destination, Current altitude and speed, cockpit view (in 3D Mode) etc. etc. WOW ! What more can you ask for ? !

So, if you are tracking a flight online, for someone you care for, this is a great tool – worth referring to !

How I work – 43 – Floating Toucher


Floating Toucher is a unique app which floats on your screen all the time, wherever you are and whatever the context. If you tap on it, you can open up an array of menu items right there, without exiting the current app.


So, if you are in a call and want to look up another contact or if you are looking at your mail and want to enable your bluetooth, all you have to do is to tap on the floating toucher and it will open up several pre-set menu items for you. You can then jump to any app directly, without going back to your menu screen. You can customize the pre-set menus, as per your own choice.


You can also set system calls like bluetooth on/off, switch the volume on/off, or clear the cache, all with just 2 taps from wherever you are. The floating toucher can be moved around on the screen, so that it does not inconvenience  you in any way.

A must-have app if you are a heavy Android user.

How I work – 42 – PrinterShare

PrinterShare – Mobile Print is a great Android app which helps you to print from your Mobile Phone – Anytime, Anywhere !  You can print PDF files, JPG files, Emails, Contacts, Messages, etc., to any printer anywhere in the world.

Download the app from the Play Store, and if your printer is Wi-Fi enabled, you don’t need to do anything more. (Not all Wi-Fi printers are supported – please check the compatibility of your printer).  If not, you will need to download a small software from printershare.com onto your computer, and install it. And, you are good to go !

The app has settings for Orientation, Paper Size, no. of copies, page range, etc. etc.

The free version lets you print upto 20 pages and if you like the app and it works for you, you can purchase the premium key – worth the price ! However, prior to buying, you must try it out on all your printers, so that you don’t have any regrets later.

How I work – 39 – 7 Minute Workout

If you don’t have time to exercise and want to do it fast, sometimes even in your office room, the 7 Minute workout is for you. This high intensity interval training app will get you sweating. 12 exercises, 3 required items (yourself, a chair, a wall), and 7 minutes is all you need to start getting in shape again! This smart and easy app is a great way to start or end your day.
Now, the couch potatoes do not have an excuse !!  A great app for wives to motivate their hubbies with big paunches (assuming they themselves don’t have one).

Your Android on the Web ! That’s what Airdroid is. Once you instal and load the app, go to your favorite browser as per the instructions and voila !  Your entire phone is visible and accessible on your computer screen. You can browse through the photo and video files, view them, download them on your computer, move things from and to your computer easily and wirelessly. You can even look through your phone’s front and back cameras !
The best part is that you can dial your nos. and also send and receive SMSs right from your computer – although personally, I prefer using MightyText for that.
With over 10 million users using the app, Airdroid is the preferred interface for your chosen Android device.
