How I Work – 173 – Magic Cleaner for WhatsApp

Professor Kleen believes in cleanliness. So why not invite him to your phone to keep it clean? Over a period of time, hordes of Whatsapp messages come with images which clog your device’s memory. It is really a pain to sift through the pictures and keep what you need and delete the rest. Magic Cleaner for Whatsapp does exactly that for you.

After you install and run the app, it will analyse all your Whatsapp photo and video attachments, find those that it feels are junk and then neatly categorize the junk into various groups – quotations, cartoons, forwards, etc. It allows you to review them and ultimately allows you to delete them all in one shot. It thus allows you to do the dirty work quickly and efficiently. In my initial trials, I found that all this was done very intelligently, using cutting edge technology and neural networks. After a few iterations, I was confident and was able to delete the junk found, without even a review.

A must for Whatsapp users!

How I Work – 169 – Alarmy

If you have worked hard or played hard, it is always a challenge to wake up on time, the next day.

Setting an alarm is easy, but waking up when it rings, is difficult. So, here is an app which is rated the world’s most annoying alarm app – Alarmy – Sleep If You Can!

Alarmy delivers the most hectic, annoying sounds – Remember to keep the volume at the loudest. Besides, you can also setup some tasks. The alarm won’t stop until you complete the pre-designated task. After you perform the task, you can get to see the news and weather in the app itself.

You can set the alarm to stop on performance of a task (e.g. solving a Math problem), a gesture (shaking the phone) or even taking a picture – you could register a place (e.g. the bathroom sink) to turn off the alarm – when the alarm starts ringing, you will need to go to the registered place and take a picture, for the alarm to stop!

Go for alarmy and remember me when  you wake up!

How I Work – 168 – Renotify

Renotify is one of the fastest note-takers I have come across. It allows you to take notes very quickly, no further clicks or taps, no labelling, no choosing icons. Just tap the app icon, type in your note and save. That’s it. In fact, by the time you read this sentence, you could have created a note!

The focus of this app is on speed. Hence the bells and whistles of a typically serious app are absent. Just put the app on your home screen or lock screen, and all you have to do is open it, immediately type your message and press a button, and your reminder will be waiting for you in the form of a notification next time you look at your phone. The paid version has editing options too, but the free version is just enough for starters.

So have you taken your first note / reminder yet?

How I Work – 167 – MacroDroid

Macrodroid is a simple Task Automation tool which relies heavily on a simple User Interface and enhanced Usability. Other automation tools like Tasker which are more advanced, have a steep

learning curve and hence more complex.
The simple aim of Macrodroid is to create Macros (repetitive tasks) which operate automatically. e.g. you would like to turn on / off a Data / Wi-Fi connection when you reach a particular place or you would like to automatically answer a call when Bluetooth is connected.
The way of doing this is pretty simple – you first select a Trigger event (what will trigger the task) and select an action to be performed. That’s it. There are further variations (constraints) which you can use, as you get more acquainted with the app.
The app comes with several in-built Macro templates for you to use, which gets you up and running immediately, instinctively.
Remember to send an SMS to your wife, when leaving office – if you use Macrodroid, it will be done automatically !

How I Work – 166 – Doze

Battery life is a big problem on most smartphones. And we all know that background data is a big drag on battery life. Doze is one of the simple apps for a better battery life.

Doze switches off background data transfer when your phone is not in use.  Apps can resume normal activity when the screen is on.That’s it!
If you wish to allow certain apps to continue with data transfer, you can setup exceptions (create an active list) and Doze will not come in the way.
It is different from the Power Saving feature in Android Lollipop which turns off data and turns it on only when you manually open the app. Doze automatically turns on data for all apps when the screen is on.
Try it – it is sure to add hours to your battery life!

How I Work – 165 – Kids Place

Kids place is an app launcher which gives you peace of mind when you give your kids your phone or tablet to play.  It protects your personal data and restricts kids to run only apps approved by you. You can block the kids from making phone calls, sending SMSs or performing other actions that may cost you money. There is also a useful timer feature, which can lock the phone after a pre-specified time!

You can block incoming calls, block wireless signals and add custom wallpaper to enhance your kid’s experience and can support multiple user profiles for each of your kids or even your teenagers.

The premium (paid) version also has an option to reload on reboot and preventing uninstall of the app.

Let the kids enjoy while the parents get their much needed peace of mind while they are at it.
