pCloud

pCloud is a Switzerland based cloud storage company which helps you save your local hard disk space. It offers multi-platform cloud storage that any user can use efficiently. The best part about this solution is that after you copy the files to the pCloud, you can delete it from your hard disk and then seamlessly keep using the files on your computer. This is especially useful for devices which have low memory like ultra-light laptops and mobile phones.

pCloud allows you to upload any type of file, without any size restrictions. If you need to encrypt your private files, you have that option too. The basic version comes free and for larger space and encryption, you need to pay.

Once the code is scanned, you can access Whatsapp directly on your computer. Henceforth, all that you have on Whatsapp is accessible on your computer directly and all that you have on your computer can be copy / pasted on your Whatsapp!

Hidden Camera Detector

These days there is a lot of concern over privacy issues and worries about hidden cameras. This app can detect a hidden camera efficiently. (You need to have a magnetic sensor in your phone, other wise this will not work.)

Just fire the app and then move your phone close to the area where you doubt there is a hidden camera – it could be a shower, flowerpot, lens looking part or changing room mirror. If a camera is detected, it will beep instantly.

It also has one more tool which detects infrared lights. Just open the infrared detector and scan for white light that appears on screen but not visible by naked eye. Such white light indicates infrared light. It could be an infrared camera.

A very useful tool while travelling or in changing rooms

Drops – Learn a language – one drop at a time

This is an app which aims to teach you a foreign language, but it does so in bite-sized chunks using pictures and games to help you learn and remember the basics.

Drops takes “boring” out of language learning: useful vocabulary is beamed into your memory via gorgeous minimalist illustrations and fast paced micro-games. No translations into your native language – no middlemen – just pure fun.

Greenify

When we buy a new phone, it works smooth as silk. Over a period of time, with addition of apps, some of which hog the live memory, the phone slows down, and the battery drains faster than before. With Greenify, your device can run almost as smoothly and lastingly as it did the first day you had it!

Greenify helps you identify and put the misbehaving apps into hibernation when you are not actively using them, to stop them from lagging your device or leeching the battery, in a unique way! They can do nothing without explicit launch by you or other apps, while still preserving full functionality when running in foreground.

NEVER greenify alarm clock apps, instant messaging apps unless you don’t rely on them. Please do verify the impact of greenified apps on which you heavily rely.

Speed up your phone and get more juice from your battery – Greenify it!

Signal – Your secure, private messenger

Using Signal, you can communicate instantly while avoiding SMS fees, create groups so that you can chat in real time with all your friends at once, and share media or attachments all with complete privacy. The server never has access to any of your communication and never stores any of your data. An ideal, private, secure replacement for WhatsApp

Signal uses an advanced end to end encryption protocol that provides privacy for every message every time. There are no separate logins, usernames, passwords, or PINs to manage or lose.

It allows you to create encrypted groups so you can have private conversations with all your friends at once. Not only are the messages encrypted, but the Signal server never has access to any group metadata such as the membership list, group title, or group icon. And you can make crystal-clear phone calls to people who live across town, or across the ocean, with no long-distance charges.

cVIGIL – Vigilance during Elections

During elections, there is a lack of a fast information channel to transmit and track complaints of violation of Model Code of Conduct to the Election Commission. Delays in reporting such violations may provide an easy escape route for candidates who have violated the code. Further, lack of any documented, untampered, evidence in the form of pictures or videos was a major hurdle in establishing the veracity of a complaint, later. The Commission’s experience has also shown a significant percentage of reporting was false or inaccurate, which led to wastage of precious time of Field Units.

The new cVIGIL app launched by Election Commission of India is expected to fill in all these gaps and create a fast-track complaint reception and redressal system. cVIGIL provides time stamped evidentiary proof of model code of conduct / Expenditure Violation, having live photo/video with auto location data. This unique combination of timestamping, live photo with auto location can be fairly relied upon by election machinery to navigate to the right spot and take prompt action. The GIS-based dashboard provides strong decision tool to drop and dispose of frivolous and unrelated cases even before they are acted upon, thereby reducing the workload of election machinery on ghost complaints.

IF you find any violations – use cVIGIL today!

Open Signal – measure your data speeds

OpenSignal is an award winning app,  packed with features to help you accurately measure the everyday experience you receive on your mobile network. It includes download speed, upload speed and latency test, test speeds on cellular or wifi. It also retains a history of speed tests, visualized on a map or list.

The speed test allows you to find out the location at which the signal is strongest, and also compare cellular and wifi speeds. Network availability and speed stats are stored and listed based on your own experience as well as the experiences of others – whether on your own service provider or on other networks.

Coverage maps are available for all operators and zoom in to street level. The coverage maps are based on the signal experienced by users. The data is collected by crowd sourcing and is fairly representative. You could use this information to download maps before visiting areas with weak or no signal.

Overall, a very useful tool to understand your mobile connectivity efficiency.
