How I work – 76 – Dashclock


This is one of the better widgets made for your smartphone / tablet. It replaces the normal lock screen of your phone, which is fully customisable.


The widget comes bundled with extensions which give you instant access to current local weather, missed calls and unread messages, unread GMail updates, your next appointment and also your next alarm. Each of these is fully customizable and you have full control over what you see on your lock screen.

Android users love the fact that it is fully cusomizable – this is one more app which does it superbly !

How I work – 75 – ScribbleMaps.com


ScribbleMaps is the easiest way to draw and share maps with others. May it be your friends, relatives or clients.


It is very simple to use. Just go to www.scribblemaps.com and click on create a new map. You will be presented with Google Maps in the background. Locate the area where you would like to create your own map. Once you are in that area, select the tools on top to draw lines, arrows, place markers, insert text or images and more, till your map is complete. Once done, you can email the map to a friend or relative or even embed it on your website !  Truly simple and elegant.


If you register, you have certain benefits but you can even save and share maps anonymously. The base version is free and the pro version has many more features for map enthusiasts.

How I work – 74 – Print What You Like


Very often one comes across websites which are useful and one would like to print selected stuff from the webpage. This is a real pain. You will also have to print all the ads and other stuff which accompanies the page. This small extension in Chrome, helps you Print What You Like.


Head to www.PrintWhatYouLike.com and download the widget for Chrome. For other browsers, there is a bookmarklet which you can snuggle in your Browser Bookmarks. Now, when you read something you like and would like to print it, just click on the widget (or bookmark), select what you would like to print and hit PRINT. That’s it !


Save ink, paper, time and all the rubbish which need not be printed when you want a print. Just Print What You Like. Very neat and useful !

How I work – 73 – INKredible


With all the advancements of keyboards, writing has not yet gone out of fashion. And if you have to draw figures to prove a point, you don’t have much of a choice. INKredible is an app which helps you do just that – write on your smartphone / tablet with a stylus.


When you write on your smartphone with a stylus, you observe that it can get incredibly irritating because your palm and wrist keep making marks on the screen. INKredible is a tool which helps you avoid that. So you get clean and crispy notes and diagrams without the hassles of smudges.


It helps you write on phones and tablets distraction-free. Most of the time you will just see a blank sheet to write on, with the UI cleverly hidden. It is free and worth a try for those who avoid using the stylus just because they get irritated using it !

How I work – 72 – Educational Games for Kids


Educational Games for Kids by Zodinplex is a great fun tool for kids. This app allows your kids to learn while playing on your Smartphone.


It has games and flash cards to learn numbers, alphabets, words, shapes, colors, weekdays, calendar and much more. It is very simple to handle and will keep your kid busy for hours while he figures out each of the exercises. It helps in training for memory, improves pronunciations, enhances concepts and improves development.

 

Meant for pre-school kids to learn the tricks of the trade fast !  In the process, they will be adept at handling your smartphone too !  You have been warned !

This is an interesting website for those who would like to do Yoga at their own pace and style. It is the web’s best selection of high-quality, high-definition, 100% free, streaming yoga videos. It has HD streaming videos which you can browse by Style, Difficulty level, Length of time. You even have a choice of instructors with more than 15 instructors to choose from ! Each one of the 100s of videos is carefully made with trained instructors and totally free.

The beginners’ section has simple asanas which any lay person can start with. You can graduate to more advanced sections as per your need and convenience. There are separate sections on poses, breathing exercises, meditation, each enough to keep you interested in continuing your quest for a healthy lifestyle !

How I work – 70 – My Shoebox


If you are looking for a great storage option to store ALL your photos, without any limitations on the space occupied, go to My Shoebox. Install it on your computer and on any other device – Android, Windows or iPhone and all your photos will be autosynchronized.


By default, all photos are stored chronologically with 256-bit industry standard encryption. You can create folders within the gallery and share them with friends, who will also need to have the app. The free version compresses your photos, which is good enough for computer / screen viewing. However, if you need to print in large sizes, you may have to go for a Pro Plan.

Don’t risk losing photos if your hard disk crashes or you lose your phone – Get My Shoebox and you are always safe !

How I work – 69 – TimeJot


TimeJot measures the time difference between recurring events in your life. e.g. if you have to visit your dentist every 6 months, the app will show you the time elapsed since  your last visit !


So, if you have to change the oil in your car every 8 months, or service your Air Conditioner every quarter, or handle any such recurring tasks – TimeJot is for you. Just fire the app and you will easily make out when you had performed this task last and when it is due to be done next. You don’t have to browse through the Calendar, do some calculations or do any guesswork for the same.

Ideal for busy bodies who just don’t have the time to track their periodic routines !

How I work – 68 – Type Machine


Sometimes, it so happens that when you are typying something, you accidentally erase it. Or sometimes, the app in which you are typing suddenly crashed, and you lost everything that you had typed. With your own Type Machine, it is never a problem.


Type Machine saves everything you type in every app. Open it at any time to find old entries. Filter them by app. Drag the history slider to see what you typed letter by letter. Tap to copy. Never lose a piece of text again!


The app quietly logs every keystroke that you type in any Android App. But when you need to revisit the typed matter, you can just go to it and find it all there ! It is discreet enough not to save the passwords that you type in any app. But you can password protect your own old entries, so that if your phone gets into the wrong hands, they will be unable to see your history.
Essentially, a boon for shaky hands and crashing apps !

How I work – 67 – Print Remotely


This is a very cool tool. If you are out of your office / home and would like to print a certain document / spreadsheet remotely, you will enjoy using this tool.


You will need to be using Google Chrome and should be signed in with your GMail id and password. Your document should be in your Chrome Browser – you could have opened it from your email or from Google Drive. Your remote computer and printer (at office or home) have to be on ( Chrome will not switch on machines and printers !) Once you go to File – Print, Change Destination, you will see your Home / Office printers also in the list. Select the one you would like to print to, and the document will be printed remotely.

A great tool when you are travelling and want some document to be printed in your office / home.
